Friday Confessions

Happy Friday ladies! How was your week? With long days because of parent-teacher conferences, mine just flew by. I really don't know how it got to be Friday already, but I sure am glad! ;)

Here are my confessions...

I confess that I have had about a million cups of coffee this week. While that might be a slight exaggeration, I have had about three cups a day, so I've been pretty wired. I picked up a new porcelain travel mug after I dropped my favorite one and broke it. Loving that these are dishwasher safe since I usually take a cup of coffee in the car with me on my commute.

I confess that I'm really loving being able to wear my favorite clothes to work and that they come home intact. This was something I totally didn't have at work last year. Here are some work OOTD's from this week.
Sweater dress: Lilly Pulitzer, Boots: Nine West via DSW
This was my cozy neutrals outfit. Sweater and pants: LOFT, wedges: Tory Burch
Peplum sweater: LOFT, pants: old, old, old from Express, flats: Tory Burch

I confess that I was a little giddy about the snow we had this week. It snowed about four and a half inches in the town where I work on Wednesday and only a little dusting in Hoboken. It was a half day of school for fall conferences so I loved watching the kids sledding down the hill outside our building all afternoon.

I confess that my dog seems to think he is a human. I got in the shower yesterday morning and when I got out, I saw this. RIDICULOUS. Clearly, he's pretty spoiled.

I confess that this is on my Christmas list. I saw the commercial during the Thanksgiving holidays and have been dying for this little sweeping and mopping robot ever since. Working woman's dream!

I confess that I am obsessed with the Sensationail at-home gel mani system. Have your tried this yet? If not, run- don't walk, to get it. You will love.

I confess that I'm looking forward to a dinner out with my husband tonight, who I feel like I haven't seen since last week!

What are your confessions today?

Lately (in photos)

Happy Monday girls! I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday and weekend and that you're week is off to a great start. I have been neglecting my blog lately as lots has been going on and I've been super busy. My apologies. I've been reading a lot of yours, though, while I've been sitting in gridlocked traffic on my way too and from work, though, even though I haven't been leaving as many comments as usual. Here's a few iPhone pics to show you what we've been up to lately.

I told you I've been working super hard. I walked out of school last Friday to see my car was the only one left in the parking lot. Plus side? I got so much done in my classroom and didn't need to bring anything home for the weekend.
My first gingerbread latte of the season. I love those Starbucks red cups.

Corey had these gorgeous flowers delivered on my birthday. Daisies and roses are my favorites. What a sweet hubby!

At least we know there won't be any mold in our building after the hurricane because I came home last week to find the lobby of our building was starting to be torn out. Kind of an eyesore for the time being, but I am so thankful because it smelled really gross after sitting under water during the hurricane.

Speaking of Hurricane Sandy and its impact on Hoboken, Riley ate an acorn on the sidewalk that was contaminated. He eats pretty much everything he can get his mouth on and he'd swallowed it before I could grab it. He has been one sick little puppy but is feeling much better now and even enjoyed a little Turkey on Thanksgiving.

My mom was in town for Thanksgiving. We had a great time and I'm so happy I was able to spend some time with her. We had dinners at my favorite restaurants, went on a couple excursions, and saw the musical Jersey Boys on Broadway. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it if you're in New York anytime soon.

And of course, there were a couple birthday mojitos. Yum!

Have a great day lovelies!

Birthday Girl!

Hi there!

Today, I am the birthday girl. It is my twenty-fifth birthday. But nevermind the year.

My biggest birthday gift is getting a two and a half day week at work. In a little more than forty-eight hours my mom will be here to celebrate Thanksgiving. I am super excited because I've really been craving some family time with my family lately. I have absolutely the best in-laws I could have ever asked for, but living so far from home causes me to really miss my own mama sometimes. Unfortunately, my dad couldn't travel with her this time which has me a little bummed but we'll make the best of it. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving, wine, mani/pedis, and going to see the Broadway play Jersey Boys.

We had a fun and relaxing weekend. Our Friday night was really low key and consisted of snuggling up watching numerous episodes of How I Met Your Mother on Apple TV and then we met up with some friends Saturday to watch the Clemson v. NC State game.

Corey won major husband brownie points when he got me the most amazing birthday present. The Tory Burch Sophie Wedges that I have wanted for an entire year! Love, love, love! I'm wearing them with my Sloan skinnies and a Lilly sweater for work today.

We had a low key but delicious dinner together last night and I enjoyed a couple delicious mojitos. Then, my sweet hubs made me breakfast before work today. What a sweet boy. :)

I'm hoping for a great work day without too much traffic. Ever since Sandy, my commute has been killing me! Happy Monday, girls!

Thoughts for Thursday

Hi lovelies!

I can't believe I've abandoned my blog for a whole week. I have been a busy girl. I haven't even had time to grocery shop. Dinner has been really creative this week at the W household ;)

Our gas service has been restored so we have hot showers, heat, and are able to use our dryer and stove again. We even have cable and internet {sometimes} so life is almost back to normal. We tried to take Riley for a walk on Saturday and about four blocks down the street I looked down and noticed he was covered with black grit. Not to mention, he'd been trying to eat any debris he could get his little chomps on. So back to the apartment we went and he is limited to just the dog run in our building until some kind of city wide cleanup is completed.

Work has been keeping me busy as well. I am still absolutely loving my new job. I went to a workshop about Guided Math and have been busy getting materials ready to pilot this in my classroom after Thanksgiving.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, my mom will be hear on Wednesday. Unfortunately, my dad can't travel with her for the holiday which has me a little bummed but I'm grateful to have at least one of them with me.

My birthday is on Monday. It's my 25th, which makes me a little sad. I prefer to think of it as the fourth anniversary of my 21st birthday. I think birthdays are more fun with that attitude. ;) Here are a few things on the top of my list...

I'm dying over the Tory Burch Sophie wedge. The perfect shoe - great for work and great for going out. These have been on my list forever!

The Burberry cinched waist quilted jacket. I love this jacket - so smart that it can be dressed up or down and I love this color. The neutral shade will go with everything.

I'm loving peplum this year. I'm loving this peplum sweater by Loft. Wouldn't it look great with black skinnies for work?

What's on your wish list right now?

It's Ok!

Its Ok Thursdays

Happy Thursday, lovelies! To be quite honest, its actually less of a happy Thursday and more of a freezing cold Thursday. A post like this was the only way you were going to hear from me today, as my patience has been replaced with irritation and frustration today. So let's get to it...

It's Ok...

That I've had 2 cups of a coffee, a cup of tea, and a cup of hot chocolate almost every day this week. I am cold!

That I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when it started to snow yesterday. I'm sorry but did we not just have a hurricane last week? Can we hold off on the severe weather at least until all utilities are restored?

That I got emotional and actually cried when I was talking to a PSE&G (gas company) employee today and he said he had no idea when we would have heat and hot water again and couldn't even give an estimate.

That I'm contemplating sneaking my dog into work with me today because we have heat there. Riley is cold, too.

That I suggested to my husband that we both quit our jobs and move to Florida, Texas, or Southern California. And I was serious.

That I crawled into bed at approximately 7:30 pm last night because I was cold and grumpy because I have a sinus infection on top of being cold. (Bonus points for my husband because he served me dinner in bed.)

That I wore my South Carolina Lilly murfee to work yesterday while I was teaching New Jersey history. I'm trying to channel slightly warmer weather. Plus, Lilly is always a mood booster.

That receiving this in my email was the highlight of my week. Happy early birthday to me!

What's OK with you today?

Hitched: Pre-Ceremony Wedding Photos

Happy Tuesday, y'all! I'm very happy this Tuesday because my sweet third graders are finally coming back to school! We had a workday yesterday to check on our classrooms and get together a "game plan" for how to move forward after six days off. My building finally got power yesterday morning so with only one school in the district lacking power, we're back to school and work today. I'm getting back into the swing of things on the blog today as well with a wedding recap post. Today, I'm sharing some sweet pictures that were taken before the ceremony.

Next week I'll give you a peek at our ceremony, which was held in the church I grew up in. In the meantime, the gas company is refusing to fix our gas. Today is cold shower number 4. Brr!!! But at least we have heat and electricity! And internet so I can blog stalk all of you. Have a great day, lovelies!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday, ladies!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Things are creeping slowly back to normal around Hoboken. Our power came back on on Saturday morning so I returned home to clean up the apartment and get settled back in. I cooked dinner Saturday night and watched about a million episodes of Friends since our cable and internet wasn't working yet.

We got a notice that our gas had to be turned off for safety reasons while all the meters are replaced since they were submerged. So, I took one last hot shower and made a grocery list of things I could make in the crockpot and on our cuisinart griddler. We have a gas stove, which was great for when the power was out, but kind of sucks right now. Our hot water heater and clothes dryer are also gas so I'll be showering at the gym this week and won't be doing any laundry.

Our cable and internet came on last night, which felt like Christmas. I can finally connect with you all again through the blog and was able to catch up on some of the week's worth of television I missed online.

The power is still off at my school but it is on at another elementary school in town so the kids have one more day off (their sixth day missed) and we will be meeting to discuss pacing, making up our days, etc. today.

Corey was out of town this weekend. He left on Friday for San Antonio for a work conference. I have to say I wanted to sneak on the flight and go with him. The weather was a warm 85 degrees and they had power, hot water, and cable/internet - luxury! Sometimes, we take things like electricity for granted. Its my goal to be more appreciative of the little things.

I want to thank all you ladies for your kind words and support over the last week. I've gotten so many sweet tweets and emails just checking in on Corey and me. And a big thank you to those who opened their hearts to help the situation here in Hoboken by donating to either the Red Cross or to the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund.

I'm planning for things to get back to normal here on the blog. If I have time to schedule it today, we'll be picking up with the Hitched series tomorrow and I've recently tried the Sensationail at home gel manicure system (good thing since my fav salon was destroyed) and we have to chat about that. My birthday is two weeks from today so I'm dying to share all the fashion goodies I've been lusting over with you ladies.

I hope you have a great Monday, loves!

Want to lend a helping hand?

Hi ladies!

I'm still here. Still without power - both at Corey's parents' house and our apartment in Hoboken. I'm having my car serviced because the engine light chose the middle of a hurricane as an appropriate time to come on. The up side - I'm enjoying the power, heat, and wireless internet at the Volkswagen dealership. And drinking all their coffee.

Corey and I returned to Hoboken yesterday to check on our apartment. We cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer since everything was hot and there is no estimate for when we will have power. FEMA and the National Guard are in Hoboken so it might be today or tomorrow or it might not be for nine or ten more days. Unfortunately, the anniversary tier of our wedding cake had thawed completely out and was warm so we had to throw it away, which completely broke my heart.

But not as much as my heart broke when Corey and I went on a walk to find a charging station (people from out of town have brought in generators and hooked power strips up to them) for our phones and food (out of town food trucks have come into Hoboken so people can eat.) On our walk, we saw basement apartments still flooded, with authorities helping to pump them out.

While the water has now receded, people in ground floor apartments were flooded as well with flood waters rising up to 8 feet in some neighborhoods. And these waters were filled with dirt, debris, and raw sewage. Hoboken is an older city so sewage and waste combines with runoff water from the streets, meaning that when the city floods, all of that is in the streets. And this time not only was it in the streets, but it was in people's homes destroying everything they own. While some people have homeowners and renters insurance, there are others who did not have it and have literally lost everything. This picture of the floodwaters is of the grocery store across the street from my building.

While we were walking yesterday, we noticed condensation in almost every car we saw along the streets. People tried to park their cars in garages but even those that were able find space before the garages were all full were not necessarily safe. The attendant in our garage said that there were over 150 cars that were flooded and totaled on the bottom floor of the garage. Others were advised to park on streets that were above sea level and usually don't flood - but those streets did as well.

Hoboken is starting to get back on its feet. The National Guard has been in town since earlier in the week, rescuing people (and pets - see below) from flooded apartments and bringing by non-perishable foods. A five day old baby was rescued from a flooded apartment and supplies were brought to residents trapped in a senior facility. FEMA and our power company have been working around the clock to clear power substations of standing water, remove fallen trees, and try to restore power to the 50,000 residents of Hoboken. If you're interested in helping and are local, donations of non-perishable food, baby formula, and blankets can be delivered to Hoboken City Hall at 94 Washington Street. If you feel called to help but aren't local, a New Jersey blogger has set up a relief fund on her blog. The Red Cross is also accepting donations specifically for Hurricane Sandy victims. I know that if just a few of us donate two of three dollars - the cost of one of those red holiday cups at Starbucks - then we can help reach the goal and provide some relief to those who were most affected. I'll leave you with my favorite picture - the National Guard rescuing one of Hoboken's four-legged residents from an apartment. Did you know that there is a new law passed since Hurricane Katrina that offers incentives for rescuing pets so that they won't be left behind in another disaster?
